چکیده

Mature Fine Tailings (MFT) generated from oil sands processing represent a growing environmental issue, as settling of these tailings’ emulsion can take decades, increasing the risk toxic material’s leaching if left untreated. This study uses advanced wet air oxidation (WAO) and peroxide (WAPO) to break down MFT emulsions for faster settling. Three time intervals (5, 15, 30 min) were investigated using compressed hydrogen in pressurized vessel 3.1–3.4 MPa internal pressure at 200 °C temperature. The results showed that WAO process was able emulsion, release trapped water, recover residual bitumen. WAPO much breaking emulsion; however, presence extra oxidants also resulted degradation 5 min interval found be sufficient emulsions, separating water soil particles, recovering bitumen under tested conditions. proved efficient by degrading all inorganic carbon, whereas 70% dissolved organic carbon recovered after comprised only low molecular weight biodegradable hydrocarbons. Therefore, capable allowing tailings, with added benefit

The study of leachate treatment by using three advanced oxidation process based wet air oxidation

Wet air oxidation is regarded as appropriate options for wastewater treatment with average organic compounds. The general purpose of this research is to determine the efficiency of three wet air oxidation methods, wet oxidation with hydrogen peroxide and absorption with activated carbon in removing organic matter and nitrogenous compounds from Isfahan's urban leachate. A leachate sample with th...

Wet Air Oxidation and Catalytic Wet Air Oxidation for Refinery Spent Caustics Degradation

The work focuses on evaluating wet air oxidation and catalytic wet air oxidation technique to degrade refinery spent caustics (original COD is 250,781 mg/L) in a milder operation conditions (150-200 ̊C, 0.2-2.5MPa). The results show that: in non-catalyst WAO, the highest COD degradation conversion could reach about 75% when 200 ̊C, 2MPa oxygen and 300rpm were used. At every temperature, the react...

Wet Air Oxidation of Waste Water Sludge

Working with Wetox Ltd, a lab scale plant for the continuous oxidation of wastes from municipal water treatment and industrial processes has been developed at IRL using wet air oxidation (WAO). The WAO process can be used to significantly reduce the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of waste sludge and to recover components such as aluminium and phosphate. WAO requires high temperature (240 – 300 °C...

Degradation of paracetamol by catalytic wet air oxidation and sequential adsorption - Catalytic wet air oxidation on activated carbons.

The concern about the fate of pharmaceutical products has raised owing to the increasing contamination of rivers, lakes and groundwater. The aim of this paper is to evaluate two different processes for paracetamol removal. The catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) of paracetamol on activated carbon was investigated both as a water treatment technique using an autoclave reactor and as a regenerativ...

Wet air oxidation of phenol using active carbon as catalyst

Catalytic wet air oxidation is a promising alternative for the treatment of phenolic waste water which cannot be treated in conventional sewage plants. Catalytic wet air oxidation of an aqueous phenol solution was conducted in a ®xed bed reactor operating in trickle ̄ow regime. Either active carbon or a commercial copper oxide supported over -alumina was used as catalyst. The performance of bot...
